Безумно по Вам соскучилась!

Вернулась я из Сингапура.

В 1867 Сингапур стал колонией Британской империи, англичане придавали Сингапуру большое значение как важному опорному пункту на пути в Китай, а с 1959 Сингапур стал самоуправляемым государством в составе Британской империи, поэтому язык там — английский. 

Но не простой английский, а как его тут называют Singish, то есть сингапурский английский, или еще проще английский с китайским акцентом. Надо признаться, что бывали такие моменты, когда я не понимала, чего от меня хотят. А таксистам надо было говорить названия достопримечательностей и нашей гостиницы с очень сильным акцентом, если хотелось все-таки доехать. Достаточно забавно.

Но зато среда английская, вывески, разговоры, радио, телевидение.  Посмотрев весь Сингапур, мы отправились в Индонезию на выходные… к морю...

В Сингапуре я была со своей ученицей, девочкой 9 лет, мы занимаемся с ней по скайпу английским, и ее мамой. Мама на работе, а мы гуляли и смотрели город. И я иногда очень аккуратно пыталась с ней говорить на языке. Но для нее вне времени школы и домашних заданий — это стресс. 

Все-таки система нашего образования оставляет желать лучшего. Почему ребенок, который неплохо (по крайней мере, свои потребности объяснить может) владеет языком, и я знаю, что знает, как заказать, например, сок, боится это сделать? Потому что в школе ставят отметки, дети очень боятся что-то сказать, потому что могут допустить ошибку. И их долбят грамматикой, которая лучше входит в голову не через миллион повторения, а через логику языка… А теперь самое главное, зачем еще учить язык, если не общаться на нем и не использовать его в своих корыстных целях? А? Да, очень грустно, вот такие учителя в школе, которые не виноваты, потому что такая система образования. Я про Россию сейчас, а конкретнее про одну из московских школ. А еще учебники… Язык обновляется и развивается очень быстро, в обиход входят все новые и новые слова… а они до сих пор учат have got… и не мамочка, папочка, а Mother и Father (мать, отец). Да и много всего, я сейчас закиплю, как чайник..., так что не буду!

В язык, тем более с детьми, лучше играть. Нужно мотивировать и вдохновлять их на его использование, но не в коем случае не преподносить это более, чем само собой разумеющееся. Потому что ребенок, тоже запнется. И с детьми сложнее, конечно, чем со взрослыми, потому что они редко делают что-то хорошо через не могу, но с другой стороны и легче, потому что в незасоренный мозг очень хорошо ложиться информация.

1. Singapore consists only of one main island and 63 other tiny islands. Most of these islands are uninhabited. (tiny — крошечный, uninhabited — нежилой, незаселенный)
2. Singapore is among the 20 smallest countries in the world, with a total land area of only 682.7 square kilometres. The USA is about 15,000 times bigger.
3. Apart from Monaco, Singapore is the most densely populated country in the world, with 6,430 people per square kilometre. (densely — плотно) 
4. Singapore became the 117th member of the United Nations on 21 September 1965.
5. Symbolism of the National Flag: Red symbolises universal brotherhood (братство) and equality of man while white signifies purity (чистота) and virtue (целомудрие). The crescent (полумесяц, серп) moon represents a young nation on the rise and the five stars signify the ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality (равенство).

7. The Merlion, a half-fish, half-lion beast, is a fitting symbol of Singapore. The “Singa” or lion represents the animal that a Sumatran prince saw which resembled a lion, and the fish is a tribute to Singapore’s history as “Temasek”, the ancient sea town.
8. Singlish, a Singaporean patois mixing English with the odd phrase of Chinese, Malay and even Tamil, has two entries – lah and sinseh – in the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary.
9. Although English is the official working language and the most widely used language in Singapore, the national anthem ‘Majulah Singapura‘ is actually sung in Malay.
10. Singapore is a stopover point  for thousands of migratory birds travelling the East Asian Flyway.
11. The world’s first night zoo, The Night Safari, is located in Singapore. (Не дошли, правда)
12. Despite being largely urbanised, Singapore is the largest exporter of ornamental fish (25% of the world market).
13. The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in Singapore contains more species of trees than the entire North American continent.
14. The highest natural point in Singapore is Bukit Timah Hill, which is only 164 metres high (Singapore has a very flat terrain (местность)).
15. Buildings in Singapore cannot be higher than 280 metres. There are presently three buildings of that height: OUB Centre, UOB Plaza and Republic Plaza.
16. The world’s highest man-made waterfall, standing at 30 metres, is located at the Jurong Bird Park.
17. The largest fountain in the world is located in Singapore at Suntec City. Made of cast bronze, it cost an estimated US$6 million to build in 1997.
18. The buildings of Suntec City have been built in the shape of a palm of a hand symbolising good “feng shui”.
19. In 2003, Singapore’s Changi Airport won the award for “Best Airport Worldwide” for the 16th consecutive year from the UK/Europe edition of the Business Travellermagazine.
20. The Guinness book record for the longest human domino chain was set in Singapore on 30th September 2000. Formed by 9,234 students, it measured 4.2km.

26. British pop violinist Vanessa Mae Nicholson was born in Singapore and moved to England when she was four.
27. More Singaporeans are born in the month of October than any other month of the year.
28. The first population census (перепись населения) taken in 1824 revealed that the total population was 10,683. The 2000 census showed that the population of Singapore is 4.2 million.
29. Nearly 9 out of 10 Singaporeans live in public housing flats (государственные квартиры).
